What Is A Group Home?

The Arc of Haywood County has 3 group homes with 5-6 individuals living in each home. The homes are licensed through the Division of Health Service Regulation, and all homes provide 24/7 staff.  Each individual has their own room that they can decorate to their personal taste.  The individuals are taught each day the life and social skills necessary to live their life to the fullest as independently as possible.  The staff in each home follows each individuals personal goal plan to help them learn skills.  The individuals rotate chores, choosing menus and choosing activities inside the home and in the community with the goal of learning to be comfortable as house mates, taking turns and taking responsibility.

Part Of A Family

Each of The Arc of Haywood County’s group homes’ staff strive to make the individuals feel they are part of a family.  Each individual’s personal plan is evaluated each year to make sure they are working on reachable goals and to adjust those goals as necessary.  We feel it is very important for the individual to experience a feeling of accomplishment as often as possible.

The Arc employs qualified staff who provide services and support to residents in our homes and in the community.
