POLICY # 101

Reviewed: 2/11

POLICY

The Arc of Haywood County is dedicated to the philosophy that each of its clients is worthy of respect and is to be treated with dignity.  This policy will serve to establish an operational philosophy, which will serve to direct and focus the services, provided by The Arc of Haywood County, Inc. (The Arc)

The agency constantly seeks to improve the quality of care for those whose needs require a residential setting or other habilitative / rehabilitative services.  Regardless of level of functioning, the client’s right to enjoy as comfortable and normal a lifestyle as possible is actively promoted.  The Arc believes that each client is entitled to receive appropriate opportunities for training that will enable him/her to reach the maximum potential with which he/she is endowed.

The legal, civil, and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will, at all times, be upheld.  The staff members of the agency will continuously seek to identify clients whose needs can better be met in a less restrictive environment, and then prepare them for placement in that environment.

The Arc is oriented to structured programs with high quality support staff responsible for development and implementation of the programs.  It strives to meet the needs of each client while giving full recognition to his/her basic dignities and integrities.  Each client is viewed as having potential for growth and development.

The clients, parents, legal guardians, and community agencies shall have the maximum feasible input into policy making, individual program planning, admissions and discharges.  This shall be achieved though facilitation of formal and informal input mechanisms.  Coordination shall be maintained with case management services.

The Arc is dedicated to ensuring that its programs are an asset to the clients, their families, and also to the surrounding communities of Haywood County.

PRACTICE

The operational philosophy of the agency must be established by action of the Board of Directors.  The philosophy may only be amended or revised by action of that board.
