Matthew grew up in Western North Carolina, spending 6 years of his childhood in Waynesville. After graduating from Appalachian State University in 2006 with a degree in Industrial Technology/Appropriate Technology, he moved back to Waynesville. He worked with Mountain Environmental and with Wilderness Trail. He currently works at FUMC Waynesville as the Director of Youth Ministry since 2018. He married Sarah Jane in 2012 and they have 4 children.
